Wholemeal Fish Fillet Sandwich

I had a pleasant surprise this morning when I found a 1 footer wholemeal bread at the table ready for me to take along to work. The contents were pretty simple. A few slices of fresh lettuce, freshly prepared fish fillet and a few sprinkles of table salt (look no mayonaise). Looks like my plan to loose a few more kilograms would work now that the diet is well organised. Thank you, Mommy!

All for One and One for All!

Clarissa, Christa and their cousin, Li Shuen celebrated the birthday together. Their uncle bought a Pandan cake from Golden Bake Bakery and there were 7 candles. Clarissa (5 yrs old) wanted to be in the centre while Christa and her cousin stood on the chairs beside her. They each took turns to sing the Birthday song and blow the candles. This was the first birthday where the candles were almost fully utilised by the time all three girls were through with them. Then came the cake-cutting for the photo. They each had a pastry knife in their hands and cut at various angles for the photo. I don't think they would be afraid of any papparazzi at this age.

Pantai Seafood (Jalan Chempaka)

We had the opportunity to have a feast at Pantai Seafood Restaurant, Jalan Chempaka, just off the road to the Damansara Exit to NKVE. They have a wide selection of seafood e.g. Alaskan Crab, Snow crab, local crabs Geoduct clams, Lobsters, Oysters, snails, a wide variety of fish and other molluscs. Everyone who visits the restaurant would spend at least 5 minutes staring at their 'live food' before they are taken out of the tanks and weighed.

They really mean business by serving fresh seafood. The crab dishes (Salted Egg Fried and Sweet and Sour) came out steaming hot with the juiciness and texture of the flesh very much intact. Although we also had roasted pig forelimbs, steamed fish, tofu, vegetable, and butter clams. Most of us agreed that the highlight of the day was the salted egg fried crab dish.

Here are some of the photos:

A visit to Telok Gong

The whole family visited the famed Telok Gong (see GPS location) last Sunday in 3 cars. Despite the toll charges from Damansara Exit to Telok Gong(didn't notice as I was using the Smart Tag) and cost of petrol, it was a worthwhile outing for good food. We had 3 different varieties of crabs, nyonya sotong, steam seabass, oyster omellette, bamboo clams ( I think that's what it's called), young 'kai-lan' and coconut water.

Here are some of the photos taken during the trip.

Did anyone leave some fried buns to dip in the crab chilli-tomato gravy? Although we ordered another plate of 10 buns, it took us less than 5 minutes to gobble them up.

Fun and Barbecue at The Palace Beach and Spa

I had the privilege to have been invited for a dinner barbecue at The Palace Beace and Spa last Friday. Mommy, Clarissa and Christa were thrilled as the resort had a full view of the Mines lake and the Palace of Golden Horses. 'The resort boasts of a swimming pool designed to mimic a lagoon with the silver fine sand surrounding it.

The wide selection of salads, grilled seafood and fresh oysters, barbecue lamb, beef and chicken, fried rice and noodles, dessert and local fruits made it worthwhile for the visit. We were entertained by a local MC who seemed to know both dance and mimicry. We were decorated with a piece of local batek sarong each to set the mood for the evening of fun.

I have enclosed some photos to show you how much we enjoyed ourselves.

Seafood from Kota Kinabalu

Here are some of the photos of seafood I had in Kota Kinabalu recently. I thought they didn't look as good as they taste but the food is certainly lot cheaper than in Kuala Lumpur. I had steamed prawns, lobsters, soft shell crab and 'pucuk-paku' vegetable dish. Hehe! Now, this would make your mouth water!

Lekha-lekha ice-cream kick instead of Kungfu Panda

Mommy was away for 2 days last week and I was left with Clarissa and Christa while Grandma took care of little Benedict. So I decided to be reward both the girls (before they decided to do some mischief) by bringing them for Kungfu Panda. Since it was only the week after the release, we could not get a ticket at the Cathay Cineleisure after work around 8pm. Utterly embarrassed at the fact that I have promised the girls a movie and not being able to fulfil it, I was desparate for an excuse. Clarissa wasn't pleased that she would not be watching the long awaited "Kungfu Panda" movie. They chorused together, "Daddy, I want to watch a movie!!!". While waiting for possible cancellations of reserved phone bookings, I decided to take them for a walk. We walked by the famous "Lekha-Lekha" Ice-cream outlet and the sight of multi-coloured ice-cream peppered with tantalising chocolate chip and candy caught their attention.

"Daddy, I want the Blue colour ice-cream", said Clarissa. "Daddy, I want the yellow colour ice-cream and the chocolate ice-cream", Christa added. I dipped my hand into my pocket and took out a RM10 note and had 10 cents in return. I can't really remember getting such treats when I was their age when I didn't get what my parents had promised. Those 20 minutes were the most enjoyable time they've ever had (you could see it on their faces and feel the fulfilment). We went home very happy after that!

Oyster Mee Suah for everyone

If you have not tried this, you might want to. We brought the children to Ikano Power Centre, Damansara Perdana last Sunday. And guess what we found? Shilin Taiwanese Street Snacks has set up another branch at the LG Floor of Ikano!

We decided to have the Oyster Mee Suah i.e. something simmering hot and exotic in taste. I informed the counter staff to leave out the sambal belacan and oysters from one bowl (for Christa and Clarissa) and place them in our bowl. (Yes! Extra sambal belacan and oysters!!!). Mommy split the servings into two for each of the girls so that they needn't fight over food. And Mommy and I shared the other bowl while Benedict watched.

The girls got a Vitasoy each for good behaviour and we went on with our shopping soon after.

Good food from Sitiawan

I love the Mee Suah with rice wine and the red stuff (sediments from the rice wine) cooked with chicken. If I have it my way, I'd have Kampung chicken and Grandma cook rather than eating in the restaurant. At least then she cuts down the sugar content in the savoury soup. Mommy just loves the soup and the girls (Clarissa and Christa) can't resist the noodles!

Everyone just loves the Oyster omelette! You have eggs, onions and small fresh oysters (although I would prefer larger ones!) served with parsley, chopped fresh chillies ahd a tinge of soya sauce. Some may prefer to have some Teriyaki sauce instead but I like it the original taste.

Tender Pork chop sliced into pieces and marinated with a mixture of Marmite Sauce, Brown Sauce and possibly Soya sauce or Oyster sauce. I would prefer this as in comparison with Sweet and Sour pork which often contain more fat in the meat selection.

When are we going back to Sitiawan again?

Eggs and Toast for Breakfast

Both Clarissa (4+yrs) and Christa (2+yrs) will never refuse half-boiled eggs with toast during breakfast. It would put them in a good mood for the rest of the day in case we are planning for a 'marathon' shopping at One Utama or Midvalley Megamall. Just make sure the egg shell is clean and they don't overcook the yolk or undercook the egg (see Salmonella).

We keep the beverage drink (e.g. milo or tea) till the end and just offer them their drinking water. This would ensure that they would eat and not just fill up their stomach with drink. They love 'Ipoh white coffee' but we try not to allow them to take more than a sip or two.

Cornetto Love Perhaps?

I suppose ice-cream causes the love to flow even amongst siblings i.e. Christa and Clarissa. It gives parents like us a good 30 minutes breathing space while we shop and wheel the two girls around. Little Benedict (3 months old) will soon learn how a little sweetness can change things!

Cornetto Kid

Christa loves chocolate ice-cream and makes a mess when she digs her face into ice-cream. Her favourite is Cornetto cone from Walls. She finds it intriguing to dip her fingers into the ice-cream while saving the cone for last. I can only get her to share the cone when she is in a good mood. Otherwise she wants the whole cone all herself. If you offer her a bite, she refuses because she wants to hold the cone herself. Just make sure you give her the whole Cornetto otherwise she might just bite you!

We just make sure that she gets an occassional reward (ice-cream) but we try to make sure that she gets a healthy balanced diet too!

Sandwich Diet for lunch

I remember the days I was studying in Nottingham. I thought I would not live very long eating sandwiches for lunch. Thanks to Sainsbury located just 15 minutes walk away, I managed to cook my favourite dishes for dinner and weekends.

Now that I'm 7 years older and 10 kgs heavier, I am forced to consider switching from the Malaysian santan-rich, fat-laden and carbohydrate rich diet for some home made sandwiches.

Mommy has made a sumptuous meal from 4 slices of wholemeal bread, 6 leaves of spinach, 8 slices of tomato, 8 slices of cucumber and cheese or tuna for taste. Somehow, I think it would be better for me to add on some aerobic exercise 3-5 times a week gradually. Time for me to be regular at Celebrity Fitness.

With a beautiful wife and three children, I have every reason to do something so that I can trim down and live longer. Let's get some sense into my lifestyle!

The Manhattan Fishmarket Restaurant

Sunday afternoon was a superb time for a casual lunch with the children and I to ease off the busy week we've all had. We were presented with an offer we could not miss. Great seafood and Kids eat for free! (The offer was until 21st August 2007)

I knew what I wanted. Loiusiana Shrimps and Rocky Mountain Oysters. Clarissa looked at the menu and pointed directly at the fries. She could just live by eating french fries. Mommy just wanted Fish and Chips.

To their delight, the children were allowed to scribble on the table top decoration and were given a crab promo handout to play with. They ordered a set of Fish and Chips and Calamari and Chips. Their orders came swiftly served in a stainless steel 'wok'. Clarissa enjoyed every bit of the Dory fish and calamari. Christa was too busy slurping up the complimentary Orange juice and chomping on the french fries.

Mommy and I ordered the Manhattan Seafood set (meant to share for 2). The waiter came by the side of the table and grilled the shrimp, fish, oysters, calamari, garlic rice and fries with blue flame for about 30 seconds.

The shrimp dressed with shrimp sauce and the fried oysters even drew some praise from Mommy (usually ignores such dishes). Both items went well with the garlic rice.
The total bill only came up to RM49. Can't wait for the Merdeka Day promotions i.e. for RM100 spent, you will get a discount voucher for RM31. The next time around, we will go for lobsters!!!
